How Fire Doors Work
The only way you can really tell if a fire door with no visible damage requires replacing is to have a certified fire door installation company, like ourselves, carry out an inspection. This involves checking not just the door itself, but also the door frames and to look for any gaps.
We will also ensure the hinges are working as they should then look closely at the seals, door closers and the glass. The hardware too is always worth checking. It’s not enough, however, to only have a fire door inspection every couple of years or so.
So important are these doors that they should be inspected annually and usually every six months. That way you will know they are up to the job should a fire occur on your premises.

Did You Know?
Did you know that a fire door is only certified if it is attached to a fire door frame? In other words, there is no point in having a quality and expensive fire door if you get someone unqualified to fit it who is unaware of this fact. The fire door fitter you choose also needs to understand the fire safety regulation for your type of building.
There is no set timescale for the life of a fire door. It can depend on how much exposure (if any) to fire they have had in the past. It may be that they have been there in the building for so long that they have become weakened and even damaged over time. And, even if hardly used, they may be weakened by natural deterioration.
