Fitting a fire door is a task that a professional installer should always carry out. It’s not like fitting a standard interior door. There’s a lot more precision involved; the physical cost of not fitting it correctly can be the loss of life.
For that reason alone, it’s not worth cutting corners and getting a typical handyman in to fit it. And, anyway, all fire doors must comply with current Building Regulations. These state that fire doors must perform to BS476-22 and BS EN 1634-1 standards.
It’s also against the law not to have your fire door fitted properly because a non-working fire door offers no protection at all. If found out, it could lead to prosecution, a fine and the loss of your business. So, high stakes indeed.

Certification
Every fire door fitted by ourselves here at J & D Carpentry is given a number and a Certification sticker or plug. The client receives a Record of Installation Activities (RIA) certificate. This is for the client’s own records and to give to their insurance company.
This RIA is usually added to a company’s Operation and Maintenance manual. That way, the fire door is inspected on a regular basis, and any necessary maintenance is carried out in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Here at J&D Carpentry, we are Exova BM Trada Q-mark accredited installers. This is a leading certification body when it comes to manufacturing and certifying fire doors.
Your fire day may have a glass panel fitted, or it could be solid wood, composite material or, for added protection, made from steel. The materials involved will, of course, affect the cost of your fire door.
