Timber Fire Doors
Timber doors are made from hardwood or softer woods. Steel doors are solid and tend to be used when extra security and durability are the order of the day.
All our fire doors can be painted or laminated, veneered or factory sprayed.
It’s also possible to have a fire door which is uPVC clad. Composite fire doors are usually installed for domestic purposes, such as in high-rise apartment blocks.
Domestic fire door installation: safety
A fire door is designed to prevent fire and smoke from spreading when there is a fire in the building.
It can prevent the fire from breaking through to another area for half an hour or even up to one hour, depending on the type of fire door and how well it is installed and maintained. The fire door should meet the frame without any gaps, for instance, and the seal should be strong and in place.
Once your fire door is fitted, you must ensure that it is regularly serviced and repaired if necessary. At J&D Carpentry, we recommend you have your fire door inspected at least every six months.
