Maintenance
After installation, your fire door will need to be checked and maintained on a regular basis. This way, you can be confident of its ongoing effectiveness.
At J&D Carpentry, we carry out regular emergency door inspections.
Alongside our inspection, we issue a digital survey. This contains information on any points that require upgrading and why we believe the part has deteriorated over time.
Building Standards
If your home has an adjoining garage, then you must have an emergency door fitted. That’s also the case if your home happens to be at least three storeys high (taking into account a loft conversion).
Your emergency door fitting will be more expensive than installing a standard door. The door itself will cost more because emergency doors contain fire-retardant materials, such as steel. Often, they are produced from hardwood (although composites are also available today).
All our apprentice emergency door fitters are approved for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). Meaning they are qualified to install and maintain fire doors. Having an emergency door fitted by an unqualified installer is dangerous. It may not be fitted correctly, resulting in its inability to retain smoke and fire in one locale. Which, at worst, can lead to a loss of lives, not to mention extensive damage to a building.
