When do you need an emergency fire door?
These types of doors are installed at entrances and exits as well as halls and lobbies (the area between a stairway and a corridor, or where corridors are linked), and stairways. Emergency fire doors protect these areas from smoke, gases and the fire itself, to keep people safe as they leave the building. All types of fire safety doors are given an FD rating based on how long the door will be resistant to fire.
The four ratings are FD30 (30 minutes resistance), FD60 (60 minutes), FD90 (90 minutes) and FD120 (120 minutes). When you install more than one emergency fire door along a designated fire exit route, it will increase the area’s fire resistance time. For example, two FD30-rated fire safety doors along a corridor will double the fire resistance level to 60 minutes.

Our emergency fire door installations
England’s latest fire safety regulations for commercial and some residential buildings came into effect in January 2023. The building owner(s) or designated person must make sure that the right fire safety doors are installed and that regular fire door safety checks are conducted regularly, not just annually. At J&D Carpentry Services, our team of fully qualified, trained and experienced emergency fire door installers follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions to ensure the right fire prevention methods are adhered to.
