Why Replace/ Maintain Your Fire Door
Fire doors and their frames don’t last forever – even if they are never used. A fire door is made up of two very different parts. These are its core and the out finish. The core can wear over the years, while the outer surface may separate from its different layers. In both cases, a new door will need to be fitted.
Fire Door Requirements
There are certain requirements for every fire door frame installation to make it effective. For instance, the fire and smoke seals should have a maximum air gap of 3mm.
The door should also be able to close automatically after use. You can check that the fire door and frame have been fitted properly by a qualified installer by ensuring that there is a label stating that it is a ‘fire door.’ The door seals should also be intumescent.
This will allow them to swell in the event of a fire so that smoke can’t pass through. If there is any glass in the door, this should also be fire-resistant.
