Fire Door Inspection CompaniesNorwich

Do you need a fire door installer?

At J&D Carpentry Services we specialise in fire door installation for commercial premises. This means we are up to date on the latest fire and safety regulations for business owners in the UK. As such, we are an accredited company and also inspect, maintain and repair fire doors.

In order to be effective, your fire door should be able to hold back fire for between 30 to 60 minutes.

This is provided the door is installed properly in the first place, of course. Having a fire door installed by an unqualified fitter can result in the door working inadequately and, in fact, putting your employees’ lives at risk.

It could also lead to your insurance company cancelling your policy and you find yourself facing police charges - or, at the very least, a hefty fine for non-compliance with the government’s fire and safety regulations.

Fully Documented

There are certain requirements every registered fire door should have. This includes first-class fire and smoke seals with minimum air gaps. A fire door should also close automatically after a person has gone through it.

To ensure the door you have had fitted complies with fire and safety regulations, it’s good to check the following

  • It is labelled a fire door
  • It has three properly fitted and certified hinges
  • The gaps around the door are less than 3 mm wide
  • The fire door closes not just smoothly but so that it rests completely back in the frame
  • The seal is intumescent i.e it swells if there is a fire so that smoke and other gases can’t seep through into another part of the building
  • It contains a certification label with the fire door rating and manufacturer’s ID
  • The latch should hold the fire door completely shut
  • The door is linked to the electro-mechanical hold device so that the fire door shuts the second this is activated
  • Any glass in the door is fire-resistant
