A fire door should be able to prevent fire and smoke from spreading in the event a building is ablaze. Depending on the door, its installation, and the intensity of the blaze, this should be for half an hour or even up to an hour.
Once your fire door is installed, it’s not just a case of then sitting back and believing there’s nothing else to be done in terms of fire safety for your building. That’s because your fire door requires regular maintenance to ensure it continues to work over the months.
And that’s why, here at J&D Carpentry, we recommend you have your fire door inspected at least once every six months.

Types Of Doors
The fire doors we install for our customers vary from main apartment doors for residential properties and Houses of Multiple Occupation to internal fire doors for large public sector buildings, such as schools, leisure centres, libraries and hospitals.

The Law
UK law states that the owner or whoever the ‘responsible person’ for a building is, has a duty of care to protect persons in or around those premises in the event of a fire. The full guidance can be found under Article 17 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
At the same time, the fire doors themselves must comply with Building Regulations. This means they must perform to BS476-22 and BS EN 1634-1 standards.
