Is your fire door in need of replacement?
- At J&D Carpentry we specialise in fire door replacement
- J&D Carpentry are accredited fire door replacement installers
- J&D Carpentry are qualified to survey existing fire doors
Failure to have the fire door surveyed and then maintained or repaired means that it will lose its fire prevention ability over time, resulting in inadequate fire protection for your employees and company building.
It also means you may not be complying with standard fire and safety regulations. In addition, your insurance may be null and void, leaving you thousands of pounds out of pocket and in the worst-case scenario, having to shut down your business completely.

How Fire Doors Work
Fire doors work by preventing – or at least delaying - smoke and fire from spreading to other parts of the building. This gives your employees time to get outside and to a place of safety.
It also means there is more time for firefighters to get the fire under control. The trouble is that over time, like most items and furniture, in particular, they are subject to wear and tear.
It could be that they are used daily, for instance. Or maybe they have been damaged in some way or even been exposed to fire damage at some point in the past. For any of these scenarios, a survey and probably a replacement fire door will be required.
Other Reasons To Replace A Fire Door
Other signs you need a new fire door are if there has been vandalism or forced entry to your property.
This will usually damage the door, causing a weakness. In this instance, a repair may be all that is needed. If not, the entire door will have to be replaced. The door itself comprises two different parts – the core and the laminate outer surfaces.
In the case of the former the core can degrade over the years, and in the latter different layers can often separate over time. Neither is ideal and will probably warrant a new fire door being fitted.
