Under UK law, the owner or the ‘responsible person’ for a building has a duty of care to protect persons in or around those premises in the event of a fire. To read the full guidance, see under Article 17 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Meanwhile, all fire doors fitted by professionals must comply with Building Regulations. In other words, they must perform to BS476-22 and BS EN 1634-1 standards.
All fire doors require regular servicing to ensure they remain in first-class working order. Otherwise, there’s no point in having the door in the first place. The main task of a fire door is to prevent fire and smoke from spreading into other parts of a building.
If it’s not fitted correctly, then it won’t do this. But looking after a fire door is about more than simply installing it. It must be maintained and serviced on a regular basis.
