Is there a certified fire door frame installer in Norfolk?
There is a strict process to fire rated door frame installation, and the frame must adhere to the current regulations. Some materials should never be used to make a fire door frame, such as ash. Industrial fire doors should have hardwood frames and linings, and the fire door should fit the frame exactly to ensure at least 30 minutes of protection against fire.
Does my fire rated door frame installation meet existing standards?
In January 2023, the Government issued new regulations which came into force following the Grenfell Tower disaster. It is now a requirement for all fire doors, their frames and any self-closing devices to be checked on a quarterly basis. The person checking the doors and frames should look at:
- Whether there have been any alterations or damage.
- Whether there are any gaps around the door frame seals and hinges, ensuring they are fitted correctly.
- The door shuts within the door frame without any hitch or gaps.
- That the door closes correctly around the whole frame.
- That there is no visible damage to the door, the door frame or the door closer.
If you’re unsure, we can advise on whether your existing door frame is suitable or if you need a new fire rated door frame installation. The type and thickness of frame installed largely depends on the fire door being fitted.
