Fire rated door installation: legislation

In order to ensure your residential fire door is installed correctly and in line with current government legislation, then it must be done by industry-certified professionals like ourselves here at J&D Carpentry.

Legislation is updated every now and again, so it’s always worth checking that you remain compliant. The last big changes were as a result of the Grenfell fire tragedy, with a focus on cladding for high-rise buildings, in particular.

Building Regulations state that you must have a fire door in your home if the property has at least three storeys (taking into account a loft conversion). This is also the case if there is an adjoining garage and you enter it via an internal door from your home.

Fire Door Costings

Timber Fire Doors

We fit fire doors for a range of different customers. For instance, private HMO landlords, social housing organisations, hospitals, schools, offices and warehouses. A fire door is always more expensive to buy than a standard internal door. That’s because your fire door contains fire-retardant materials, such as steel.

At J&D Carpentry, our fire doors are all bespoke. That way, they will fit your premises perfectly since they have been calculated with your building’s specifications in mind. Our accreditation is by BM Trada Q-mark and is for the maintenance and surveying of a range of different installations, including timber, composite and steel fire doors.

Once your new fire door is installed, you will be given a certificate for insurance purposes. From this, you can also take comfort from the peace of mind that your fire door is fitted to industry standards. All fitters on our team are CSCS-approved.
