The purpose of a fire door
Fire doors play a vital role in fire safety and are a legal requirement in any building used for non-domestic purposes, as well as Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs). They must be installed in any high-risk areas, such as rooms that house flammables gases or liquids, IT server rooms and boiler houses.
The purpose of a fire door is to contain fire and smoke to just one area of a building, affording people the time to escape safely. Therefore, these important structures are often installed in doorways that lead to an escape route.
Under current fire safety legislation, it is a legal requirement that all fire doors are installed by a ‘competent person’ and that’s where we come in.

A company with years of experience
As a person responsible for property, it is vital that you take the necessary precautions to protect the building against fire. This is a requirement under The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. If you do not install fire doors in a building used for non-domestic purposes, you are liable to legal action being taken against you.
At J&D Carpentry, our friendly fire door operatives have the experience and expertise to help you meet your legal obligations. We have a full understanding of UK fire safety legislation and, as part of our BM Trada Q-mark maintenance accreditation, are able to offer surveys & inspections of all types of fire doors. It is our goal to ensure that property, people and possessions are kept as safe as possible in the event of a fire.
