Residential Fire DoorInstallation

Residential fire door installation requires fitting by a professional to ensure 100 per cent industry compliance and effectiveness. Otherwise, the door may not be recognised for insurance purposes.

Building Standards and residential fire door installation

Legally you must have a fire door fitted in your home when that door connects your home with an adjoining garage. That’s also the case if your house has at least three storeys (including a loft conversion). These are Building Regulations and are enforceable should a planning official happen to call.

When looking for residential fire door installation, you will find that a fire door is more expensive to purchase than a standard internal door. The reason for this, of course, is that fire doors contain fire retardant materials, including steel. They’ll also usually be built using quality hardwood for sturdiness. This means a residential fire door installation will take longer to fit than a standard door and may require the services of an apprentice.

Average cost of internal fire doors

There is a huge variety in the type of fire door available for residential properties. Many come with a fire-resistant glass panel and cost around £500 on the open market. Having said that, you can expect to pay up to £800, depending on how high-spec you’d like the door to be.

Understandably, you’re going to be looking for a more decorative fire door in a domestic setting. Fire doors in a domestic setting are designed to provide up to 30 minutes of fire protection. These are often referred to as FD30s.

A solid unglazed door for your home is less expensive. For an average-sized internal fire door, you’re looking at paying a market price of around the £300 mark (up to £450 for the more expensive versions.
