Steel fire door installation: maintenance
In order to be effective, a fire door must be 100 per cent secure and air-tight. Over time fire doors adjust their placement through wear and tear or perhaps warping. The door’s core may also degrade after a number of years, and the laminate on the surface of the door starts to come apart. And that’s why it’s usually a good idea to replace an old fire door as soon as you notice anything untoward.
If you call out the team here at J&D Carpentry, one of the first things we will do is carry out an inspection of the fire door. We will then write up a survey for you to take a look at.
This comprises 25 points of action. Each area is investigated, and our findings are recorded digitally (which you can later take a look through at your leisure). It’s a detailed account of what needs to be replaced – if anything - and why.

Fireproof door installation: costs
The law states that the owner or whoever is the ‘responsible person’ for the building has a duty of care to protect persons on those premises in the event of a fire. You will find the guidance under Article 17 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Meanwhile, Building Regulations insist that fire doors must comply with BS476-22 and BS EN 1634-1 standards.
