External fire doors

Keeping your commercial premises safe

Is your commercial property in need of new external fire doors? Have you been researching fire door specialists in East Anglia and are wondering if J&D Carpentry is the right fire door company for you?

The purpose of external fire doors

External fire doors play a crucial role in fire safety. Their primary purpose is to act as a barrier to prevent fire and smoke from jumping from one building to another. In addition, they offer protection against external fire threats, keeping open air fires out of a building. What’s more, in a fire, the more oxygen available, the more intense and sustained the flames can be.

External fire doors can cut off the supply of oxygen, thus helping to contain the spread of a fire and limit its growth. In commercial buildings, external fire doors are installed at entry and exit points, as well as in loading docks.

These doors are designed to withstand high temperatures for a specified period, typically 30 or 60 minutes, giving people enough time to evacuate safely and allowing the fire service to intervene before the fire has the opportunity to spread further. Beyond fire containment, external fire doors also provide additional security and weather protection, ensuring a safer environment for both staff and visitors.
