internal fire door

Helping to keep premises, people and possessions safe

Is your residential or commercial premises in need of new internal fire doors? Have you been researching fire door operatives in East Anglia and are ready to find out what the team at J&D Carpentry can do for you?

The purpose of internal fire doors

Fire doors are a legal requirement in any building that is being used for non-domestic purposes, as well as Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs). These important structures must be installed in any high-risk areas, such as rooms that house flammables gases or liquids, boiler houses and IT server rooms.

An internal fire door plays a crucial role in containing fire and smoke, so that there is limited spread to other areas of the building. Fire doors do not hold fire and smoke back indefinitely, but for long enough to enable people to escape and the fire brigade to gain access and extinguish the fire. It makes sense, therefore, that a fire door is installed in any doorway that leads to an escape route.

Under current fire safety legislation, it is a legal requirement that every internal fire door is installed by a ‘competent person’. In other words, you should only appoint a company with trained fire door operatives to carry out the installation work.
