fire door fitting
Here at J&D Carpentry, we are BM Trada Q-Mark accredited for fire door fitting. As a result, we can install all types of fire doors, from timber and composite to sturdier steel fire doors.
The former tend to be fitted in residential apartments and offices or shops, while the latter can often be found in warehouses and factories since they also provide a degree of security. Regardless of the material they are made of, the finishing of a fire door can be factory painted or sprayed, laminated, uPVC clad (for hygiene purposes in hospitals etc.) or veneered.
Fire door fitting: repairs
Once a fire door is fitted, to maintain its efficiency against smoke and fire, it must be regularly maintained. Sometimes a survey can identify the need for repairs. This is usually in the hardware of the door, such as the hinges, handles and door closers.
Most fire doors available today for residential and commercial purposes have at least three hinges – all of which can withstand heat of around 800 degrees centigrade.
Door seals can deteriorate over time, as can the wood of the door. All of these types of repair must be carried out by a professional fitter, using certified components (where appropriate CE approved). Otherwise, your fire insurance will be null and void.
Fire door fitting: contact us today
In the unthinkable event of a fire on your commercial premises or residential apartment, a fire door can prevent flames and smoke from breaking through from one part of the building to another. This can be for half an hour or even up to one hour, depending on the fire door and how well it is installed and maintained. At this point, those in the building have the opportunity to flee and the emergency services to arrive.
